A real killer from vibesman Mike Mainieri a set that's got a darker edge than some of his previous work, while still hanging onto all the warm touches of his own instrument in the lead! Backings are full, but never uptight and there's a loosness to the record that really works well with the vibes an electric mode that's warm and often a bit spontaneous – served up with help from Warren Bernhardt and Don Grolnick on keyboards, Jeremy Steig on flute, and Kazuo Watanabe on guitar! Tunes are pretty darn fresh some really inventive writing that pushes the edges, but not in a jamming fusion way and titles include "Crossed Wires", "Bullet Train", "L'Image", "Flying Colours", "Wanderlust", and "Bamboo".
