Kate Reid - The Love I'm In (2011)

Just a few seconds into Kate Reid new album The Love I'm In, are enough to see why she is considered one of the best jazz singers out of California. Reid tone is similar to modern jazz singers like Diana Krall but her soulful style and marvelous phrasing is thickened by all the jazz singers legends that came before her.

Her second album is a collection of jazz standards where Reid shows she can swing hard "The Lamp is Low", "Nice and Easy", "Something Good" get bluesy "Just Squeeze Me". Or sing a ballad like the best of them, "Where Do You Start", "I'm through with Love", "I Love you Porgy". The album also includes a wonderful english version of Jobim classic Retrato em Branco e Preto "Portrait in Black and White".

Besides being an outstanding singer, Reid is a pretty good pianist (she plays the piano in nine out of the twelve songs of the album) and also coordinates the jazz program at Cypress College in Cypress, California. (By Wilbert Sostre)
