Andrea Shippy is proud to present to you her flavorful melange of favorite standards like Autumn Leaves, Angel Eyes, and Come Rain or Come Shine, generously sprinkled with Latin tinged Bossa Nova standouts such as Song for My Father and Caravan. You will find her "good time groove" to be an infectious delight, moving you to the music and bringing you inspiration from a creative universe of your very own. Andrea Shippy will leave you tapping your feet, smiling and applauding "Bravissimo!"
Andrea has been taking music lessons and throwing tantrums about not being the star in various musical theatre productions since long before many of you were born. She was not the star in a 1977 San Francisco Children's Opera production of "A Date With Santa," she was not the star in a Santa Cruz Children's Theatre production of "The Wizard of Oz" in 1978, but she played a mean wicked Queen Vashti in the SFJCC Purim Pageant in 1979. She did play Magenta, who is not the star, and Associate Produced "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" to the Co-op class at Bay View Elementary in Santa Cruz two years in a row in the 1970's.
She was in an Attic Theatre traveling production of "Charlotte's Web" in the early eighties, memorably emulating Paul Lyndt's wisecracking Rat, Templeton, and enjoyed being in chorus all four years of high school. She was in "Hair" at Urban School of San Francisco and studied acting with George Coats and Ellen Sebastian.
Andrea is a graduate of the University of California Santa Cruz, and has a Master's Degree from San Francisco State University where she was treasurer and tenor saxophonist for the SFSU Swing Band. Her father was world renowned Harpsichord Builder Robert Greenberg, whose museum quality oeuvres d'art grace many a fancy parlor. She has been studying music and vocals for over 30 years, and has a thorough understanding of the nuances of bringing joy to any occasion.
Andrea has been studying classical and jazz saxophone with Master Teacher Bill Fiege since 1990. She has written and produced an album of her own songs with Chris Faust on guitar, myspace /shapedlikesaints, edgy acoustic folk/rock with a city-girl sensibility.
She was in an all girls band she named "Glitter-Us" which died a tragic death from Aries overdose. She recently attended Michael LaMacchia's Closet Musician's Workshop in Marin and quickly wowed them all. She is now prepared to knock your socks off with her singing and saxing, and is sure to immediately become your new favorite singer saxophonista. Her other talents include frothing cappuccinos and wearing wigs.
The album, "I Wish You Well" mixes a wistful longing with a joie de vivre that can only be captured by singer who also plays saxophone. It is timeless music that anyone will enjoy, from people who remember these classics from their youth to young people who have never heard them before. Sing along in the car or play while you work, but be sure to enjoy Andrea Shippy's gorgeous renditions of these accessible, soulful songs of desire, dreams, love and grief- the whole of life.
