Op Songs from the Road staan 12 nummers van Leonard Cohens concerten uit 2008 en 2009. De set bestaat uit stukjes van 11 verschillende shows, en hoewel het niet echt een verzameling zeldzame nummers is, staat er wel een aantal minder bekende nummers (zoals “Heart With No Companion” en “That Don’t Make It Junk”) op, en alternatieve versies van een aantal van zijn bekendere nummers (Cohen jongleert met de volgorde van de coupletten op “Suzanne” en voegt een nieuw couplet toe aan “Bird on a Wire”). Het album demonstreert dat Cohen een intrigerende en innemende performer is die zijn ziel in elk couplet stopt dat hij zingt, en zijn band is niets minder dan grandioos
