Bruno Heinen introduces his new trio with their debut album Out of Doors and a Spring/Summer tour of 15 dates across the UK. Joining him, his long-time musical partner, Italian bassist Andrea Di Biase, and acclaimed US drummer, who we now think of as our very own, Gene Calderazzo.
An original suite by Bruno, the starting point for Out of Doors was the eight Hungarian folk melodies used by Bela Bartók in his 1920 composition 8 Improvisations Op. 20. Bruno also cites a particular passion here for Duke Ellington’s Money Jungle, Alice Coltrane’s Journey in Satchidananda, Chick Corea’s Now he Sings Now he Sobs, and the piano music of Ligeti and Ravel.
Over the 8 movement Out of Doors, Bruno’s roots in impressionistic classical music are concentrated by Andrea’s classical training and deep understanding of European jazz and Gene’s renowned groove and swing.
The Trio promises a live experience both reflective and radiant, over their 15 date UK tour through Spring/Summer 2020, with the album launch at Kings Place on Friday 5 June.
Bruno Heinen has released 8 albums since 2012’s Twinkle Twinkle of Dialogues Trio with Julian Siegel, up to 2019’s solo Pretty Things reworkings of David Bowie’s music. Number 9, Out of Doors, is released on his own label, on vinyl and CD, and distributed by Hoxton Vinyl for physical, and digitally by Amuse.
