Singer, harmonica player and songwriter San Pedro Slim a.k.a David Kiefer, hails from the Los Angeles port town of San Pedro, California.
His first professional gig took place at the seedy San Pedro tavern Between Rounds on Pacific Avenue in early 1991. It was from that moment on that playing Blues became a driving force in his life.
Slim would go see William Clarke, Johnny Dyer with Rick Holmstrom, James Harman, Smokey Wilson and Rod Piazza at local clubs where he would soak up live lessons nightly. Slim recalls the time fondly. “It was electric, there was a lot of Blues happening. There were so many great musicians playing out at that time, you’d be out every night.”
In November 1997 San Pedro Slim’s debut CD “Another Night On The Town” was released on the Dutch label, Tramp Records. The CD featured 12 original songs by Slim and featured the guitars of Rick Holmstrom and Henry Carvajal; with stellar backing by some of Los Angeles finest Blues musicians.
The next year Slim would tour Europe.
Slim’s long awaited follow up “Barhoppin’” was released in 2008 on his own label Barroom Blues Music featuring Rick Holmstrom and his touring band at the time.
In July 2010 Slim performed at the prestigious European festival Piazza Blues Festival in Bellinzona, Switzerland.
In late 2013 Slim released "One Room Utilities Paid No Pets" followed by "In Times Like These" in 2017
Slim is a veteran of the Southern California Blues scene for over 30 years and continues to record and play clubs and festivals.
