Interpreter of various repertoires with a powerful voice, Andrea Tessa has been a benchmark of popular singing in Chile since the 1980s. The daughter of lyrical soprano Victoria Vergara, the singer turned her heritage decidedly towards ballad, pop and classical jazz. For the first genres she became widely known on television, while the latter has been reserved mostly for her performances and more recent recordings.
Andrea Tessa had already won some artistic competitions at the Scuola Italiana before her "formal" debut on the song. That massive premiere took place at the Viña del Mar Festival in 1979, where she won the award for best performer with the song "Say I love you", by the composer Scottie Scott. The partnership with the author led her to win another contest that same year: that of the program "Lunes gala", on Channel 13. The song was "Lost love concerto".
From now on, her presence on television would be regular, becoming a frequent guest to stars and, indeed, to "Giant Saturdays", the program that gave space to the same circle of singers during the 1980s (Myriam Hernández, Luis Jara, Andrea Larbarca). From 1984 to 1992 Tessa turned almost entirely to television, as host of the video program "More music". Before MTV's arrival in the country, Andrea Tessa became a youth brand face. There, she translated the texts of the famous Anglo ballad "Music", by John Miles, and turned it into a song in Spanish that she herself interpreted: "Music is my life / my way of dreaming / my time, my destiny / my soul, my truth. "
Her second performance at the Viña del Mar Festival was surprising. Tessa appeared as a jury of the international competition in 1985 and was invited without any apparent plan by a 14-year-old Luis Miguel to sing the pop ballad "Speaking of you, talking about me". The singer continued to participate in the entertainment industry in stellar, musical and television series. In 1982 she participated with the actor-saxophonist Bastián Bodenhofer in "El show de ...", she conducted programs such as "Eslicitymente" and "Luz verde" and in 1989 she starred in the soap opera "Bravo".
It took a little longer to get to the record. It was in 1995 and she named it Pages. In the artistic production she had the help of a classic collaborator of her, Juan Carlos Duque. The album was dedicated to a pop repertoire, and excited her to continue recording at a regular rate. The following recording proves that the singer has not had the urge to pursue a typical artistic career, with constant album publishing and subsequent promotional tours. Andrea Tessa has opted for a more personal and perhaps even low-profile path in this field. In 1997 she animated the San Remo Festival and sang "Gracias a la vida" (by Violeta Parra) for the Italians.
