Between East and West, between modal jazz and trance rock, Marthe takes us on a journey with this second album: "Minos". A homage to Greece, exile and movement. Her songs pierce the heart like so many flaming arrows, we stagger between euphoric dances and long laments. Marthe has the gift of transposing the personal story into a universal value. A music between Ibrahim Maalouf and Ilhan Ersahin. By turns intoxicating and hypnotic (Black Horse, Sunrise in Kalamata), introspective and elusive (Epiphany, Minos), Marthe has character. Behind this name hides an animal, a four-headed creature in perpetual motion. Marthe has been on the road for more than 2 years, giving nearly 50 concerts in China, Thailand, France and a successful tour of Russia. During this Russian tour the quartet met the vocal trio Verbnoe Voskresenie with whom they present the creation Liturgie profane in the second half of the evening.
Although the two ensembles deal with different themes, the Orthodox culture - especially the Byzantine songs common to Greece and Russia - is an element that has brought them closer together and allowed for a shared creative space: "It seems interesting to us to confront our music with the rock energy composed of oriental melodies and odd rhythms, with these voices that sing of life and the seasons. We wish to open a path between our cultures, to create a two-way bridge. »
