Gianni Cazzola - Three Generations (2020)

Gianni Cazzola represents an important piece of jazz history in Italy, just think of his career, which began in 1957 alongside Franco Cerri and then continued in dozens of collaborations, hundreds of records, thousands of concerts. His artistic stature, although linked to the tradition of bebop and swing, has not prevented him from joining more "modern" musicians such as Giorgio Gaslini, Gianluigi Trovesi, Franco D’Andrea. And then other unforgettable groups come to mind: the quintet of Gianni Basso and Oscar Valdambrini above all, the Matt Jazz Quintet of the late Luca Flores, the E.S.P. Trio of which he is a coleader alongside Roberto Cipelli and Attilio Zanchi, a formation that often accompanied the great singer Sheila Jordan. Gianni is a drummer with a radiant and passionate style, with extraordinary models such as Elvin Jones and Art Blakey. And how Blakey loves to lead his own formations that are the launching base for talented young musicians.

In this brand new quartet we will be able to listen to the young and talented Didier Yon on the trombone; pianist Alberto Bonacasa, graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, plays with Randy Brecker, Mike Richmond, Adam Nussbaum, Paul Jeffrey, Fabrizio Bosso, Sandro Gibellini, Franco Ambrosetti, to name a few; the solid bass player Alex Orciari, a fundamental glue for a repertoire that needs security and interpretative strength.
