South West Oldtime All Stars - Play Hot 5 & Hot 7 Originals (2020)

The Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings by Louis Armstrong were recorded in various formations between 1925 and 1928 and were pure studio productions, Satchmo never went on tour with this formation.
The South West Oldtime All Stars have taken on these classics (West End Blues, King of the Zulus, Cornet Chop Suey, Struttin 'with some barbecue, Mahagony Hall Stomp and much more) and breathe new life into them, musically at the highest level and not only a real feast for the ears of friends of New Orleans Jazz.

With the Hot 5 / Hot 7, Armstrong made jazz recordings for the first time, in which the soloists were given more space for improvisation, and artistically paved the way for later jazz styles.

The artistic potential that they perceived could help jazz to see serious music. According to critic Gary Giddins, it is "the most influential recording project of jazz, perhaps of all American music".

Drummer Trevor Richards (New Orleans), master student of drummer Zutty Singleton (member of the original line-up of Louis Armstrong's Hot Seven - who even inherited his drum kit), ensures the wonderful band sound with his unmistakable authentic playing. He has been the recipient of the highest award from the American National Endowment of the Arts for over 20 years, was drummer of the year for the European specialist media press and received the Grand Prix du Jazz of the Hot Club de France in France for his trio CD with the clarinetist Evan Christopher.
