Born in the city known for its pivotal part in American culture, music and civil rights struggle, Bridgewater was part of an American legacy. Backed up by the Stax Academy Choir and Kirk Whalum, Dee Dee re-imagines some American Blues and R&B classics including “Why? (Am I Treated So Bad)” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”
In 2017 Bridgewater was awarded the NEA Jazz Master for her lifetime achievements in jazz, the highest accolade given in the genre.
