LBF - Scent Of Gravity (2020)

Since forever, Antonio de Spirt has been a multiplier, a collaborator, a social project almost as much as a musical one. Accordingly, his catalogue as La Boum Fatale is a testament to cooperation, creative exchange and musical friction. Four years after his last album, the feature-rich „Holygram“, this ever-expanding universe returns as a powerful and intense concentrate. Less collabs! More friction!

A single vocal statement of intent notwithstanding, LBF’s „SCENT OF GRAVITY“ is a solitary and wordless work, its six tracks carefully and brutally laying bare the strengths and structures of their creator‘s approach. Its origin: a reflection on the CERN documentary „Particle Fever“ and on the building blocks and inner workings of the universe. Its creation: three years of intense and torturous late-night sessions spent between DAWs and science deep dives. In the end, however, de Spirt found that his efforts had yielded something more specific and interesting than what he had set out to create.

„SCENT OF GRAVITY“ is a reflection on electronic music, on its building blocks and inner workings, its ambitions and its shortcomings, its arcs and oscillations, its steep drops and cliffs, its brutal lows, burning heights, scapes and stabs and glittering arps. Six tracks: Blinding towers of tremolo rising from dark bitcrushed waters, brutal attacks poking holes into a fragile manifesto and vice versa, a syncopated midnight thrillride falling apart and rebuilding itself, mixed signals, deep unison growls, starry arps and stubborn punchy snares walking into a bar, a Russian space opera melting away as it flies into the sun, an epilepsy warning brilliantly ending too soon.

„SCENT OF GRAVITY“ is a sweet and powerful reworking of electronic signifiers, a concentrated rhythmical attack. Its music as a weapon, as jewelry, as a library. It is therefore a perfect record for warriors, collectors and scholars. It is also really good.
