Achim Kirchmair Trio - Sunkeeper (2020)

Kirchmair, who has been on the road as guitarist, band leader, sound creator and composer in various projects and genres for years, is once again showing with his trio's current work creative skills that not many musicians can call their own. Sentimental, sometimes reserved, but also decisive at the same time. So the game of the former student Harry Pepls can be described briefly. His style, like his compositions, is never one-sided or repetitive, rather different styles and creative approaches are brought into harmony with insane ease. Swinging grooves and jazzy comping can be found on "Sunkeeper" as well as lovely melodies and extremely tasteful improvisations. The latter are reminiscent both in terms of playing style and sound design, here the increased use of effects such as "Reverb" and "Delay" is worth mentioning, occasionally again and again of jazz icon Bill Frisell.
