George St Clair - Do You Feel Strange? (2020)

George St Clair is a unique songwriter – true to his West Texas roots, yet critically sensitive to other sides of the story. He has lived for the past several years in the UK, and reflections on his Southwest US homeland shaped in his 2018 album Ballads of Captivity and Freedom. His new album, Do You Feel Strange? is set for release on March 26, 2020

Growing up on the high plains of Texas bound George to the places, people, and sounds of the American West. But those epic landscapes were also where vicious battles were fought over the possession of land, and where the native ways of life were decimated. George’s bilingual mother made sure to regularly take her children deep into Mexico, where they learned Spanish, acquiring a broad view of what it means to be American.

George cut his teeth in the rich Austin, Texas music scene - performing in Country, Rock, salsa and Flamenco bands. In his upcoming record, Do You Feel Strange?, George stays true to the best of his Texas roots. But other worlds shine through in an album that is melodic and heartfelt. "If You Look Up", released on October 4th, 2019, is the first single from the album.

Alongside music, for over 20 years George has pursued a career as a professional archeologist and anthropologist, living for extended periods of time in remote places in the American Southwest, Mexico, Peru, and Brazil. His travels re-crossing the US-Mexico the border ignited his historical imagination and sharpened his awareness of life in the region. In an unexpected turn, George was offered a chance to pursue a PhD in Anthropology at the London School of Economics, followed by a few years of lecturing and research at the school.
