Borrowing the title from their 1993 Christmas single, Alabama delve into the spiritual and inspirational for 2014's Angels Among Us: Hymns & Gospel Favorites. This isn't the first time Alabama have recorded a gospel album but it may be their best due to its light, easy touch. Some modern inspirational albums are too precise in their execution, but not Angels Among Us. Certainly, the production is clean and clear, but that only emphasizes Alabama's broken-in chemistry, accentuating their harmonies and laid-back performances. The songs are nicely chosen, heavy on old hymns but finding places for country standards "I Saw the Light" and "I'll Fly Away," and the entire enterprise feels like a relaxing Sunday afternoon at home.
