Ashiko - Gumba Fire (Madlakadlaka) (1986)

Teal Trutone also boasted a six-man band in the name of Ashiko. exactly what inspired the name is not very clear except that it could have been influenced by the 1975 Hugh Masekela’s recording of oJ ekemonde’s composition Ashiko on his album The Boy’s Doin’ It. Ashiko is translated as “World of time” – no time to lose. the band ashiko was Alpheus Mofokeng (lead vocals), Thomas Tladi (guitar), Innocent Hala (keyboards), Diliza Maneli (keyboards), Bonakele Mbambisa (keyboards) and Skipper Shabalala (guitar).

Ashiko are 6 young men from Soweto who are now releasing their second LP. After the success of their first records, the Maxi "Sunrise Sunshine" and the LP "Come on Girl", this recording shows a mature new Ashiko.
This band, whilst dedicated to progress, show great respect for their musical roots from the massive dance hit "Gumba Fire" to the sweet Swahili sound of "Malaika Malaika".
