The band, Mókrókar was formed in February of 2018 by Benjamín Gísli Einarsson, Þorkell Ragnar Grétarsson and Þórir Hólm Jónsson. The idea was to meet regularly and rehearse original music.
The trio signed up for Músíktilraunir 2018 (Icelandic "battle of the bands") where they finished in 2nd place. In the summer of 2018 the band worked as creative summer group for young emerging artists at the Reykjavík Youth Center and performed in various occasions all around Reykjavík.
In July 2018 the band participated in a Stage Europe Network project in the Netherlands, where they performed at Westerpop 2018. In October the band went to Norway to play at DølaJazz festival.
Mókrókar have also performed at various Icelandic music festivals, such as: Secret Solstice, Reykjavík Blues Festival and Iceland Airwaves.
The music can be described as modern-jazz with influences from many different directions. The trio is influenced by the music of masters like John Scofield, Paul Motian, ADHD and many others.
Mókrókar try to leave space in their music for open improvisation. Their compositions strive to capture certain atmospheres and reflect certain states of mind.
Members of the trio have very different musical backgrounds which makes the band's musical spectrum wide, causing their music and their overall soundscape to be full of "weird" and colourful contrasts.
The album "MÓK" will feature original songs from all of the band members.
