Recording a covers record can be tricky because, of course you're never going to replace those classic songs... how can you relive what Stevie Wonder did on "Signed Sealed Delivered", or Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". You can't. All you can do is ask yourself as an artist, can I honor this song and put my own stamp on it? Does it feel natural to me and does it add something to the legacy of the song? I really worked hard with my producer Arun Chaturvedi, and my A & R guy Greg Howard to go through a ton of songs and really choose the one's that felt the most natural, as well as created a nice flow and an album you can play top to bottom. We really spent a lot of time jamming the songs and trying them at live shows, to make sure that the arrangements we came up with had that authentic feel, but felt fresh.
