Celedonio Romero was a composer, guitarist and poet known to the public as the founder of the Romero’s Quartet. He was born in Cuba 2 March 1913 during the first part of his life the family moved to Spain. He began playing guitar when he was just five years old and after some years, he began his courses at the Malaga conservatory where he studied music theory, harmony and counterpoint, but formally he did not study guitar with a teacher. He debuted in Spain at the age of 22 as a well-known artist. After obtaining an American Visa all of his family moved to the USA and settled in California and during these years Celedonio and his brother Celin founded with their other two brothers the guitar quartet remembered as “The Royal Family of Guitar”. Celedonio made many recordings alone, with the quartet and with his brother Celin as presented on this release. He left more than one hundred of compositions and concertos for guitar. This IDIS album is dedicated to the first and very rare studio recordings of Celedonio and Celin Romero performed at the beginning of the Sixties.
