SHM-SACD stands for Super High Material Super-Audio CDs. This is a single-layer, stereo-only SACD pressed on special SHM discs utilizing high-quality polycarbonate material originally developed for LCD panels. Following Universal, Warner Music Japan began reissuing its jazz titles on SHM-SACD, including classic records from Atlantic label.
Stuff was a legendary funk jazz group that existed briefly in the late 1970s. Under the leadership of bassist Gordon Edwards, first-call New York studio musicians got together and mostly played for their own fun. It released five albums before disbanding in 1980. I have an impression that they are somehow better known and appreciated in Japan than in the US.
This second album retained the funk-jazz-soul blend of fusion but with a stronger emphasis on soul than the first. The listener will enjoy the sharp drumming of Steve Gadd and Christopher Parker, different styles of guitar playing by Cornell Dupree and Eric Gale; even a vocal performance by Edwards and Richard Tee.
Produced by Van McCoy, Charlie Kipps and Stuff. Originally released in 1977. This SHM-SACD was released in Japan on July 20, 2011. 2011 DSD remastering based on original analog master tapes maintained in Japan. Stereo.
