Aphro - Voodoo Music, Vol. 2 (2020)

Five years after the first volume, Sergio is back with his soundtrack for a nonexistent movie. This "Vol. 2" closes the "Voodoo Music" diptych.

The question is: now that we have the music, what would the movie be like? We could say that it would be a mix between "Vampyros Lesbos", "Arabian Nights", "Solaris" and "Treasure Island". Hypnotic, exotic, spatial and erotic content is definitely present throughout the album. It must also be said that this imaginary film would be shot in the 70s.

A kaleidoscope that is made by tribal infused rhythms, easy listening and seminal drum machines blended with old reggae, Turkish, Latin or soul samples. On top of all that, his Korg draws addictive psychedelic tunes with a hint of Middle Eastern smoke. He switches the more clean production of his previous work for a lo-fi aesthetic that maximizes his use of field recordings and crackling vinyl textures. Aphro maintains the innocence and motivation of a novice producer making music in his room, which is basically how he likes to refer to himself. He produces as if he were going to discover something new each time.
