Amy Cox - The Bluegrass Project (2020)

It was the tiniest spark of a thought, "How could I capture a piece of our family history in these mountains of Grundy, VA?" And that spark grew into....The Bluegrass Project; a live recorded album by Amy Cox and members of Golden Age Grass, a local Buchanan County Bluegrass group, from the front porch of Amy's great grandmother's house on Dry Fork Rd in Grundy, VA.

On September 4, 2019, Amy joined by Quay White on upright bass, Billy Brewster on banjo, Tommy Taylor on the harmonica, and Mike Hankins on the dobro/guitar met on Dry Fork Holler to spend the day playing music. With Movoly Productions on hand to capture both video and audio, the group recorded a collection of eight songs. Amy's original songs, "Coming Home to you", "Dream with You", "Bob Ford", and "With You" take on new bluegrass feels, while the classic bluegrass folk song "Jesse James" is given a fresh spin with a ukulele. The album rounds out with classic hymns "Just a Closer Walk with Thee", "Amazing Grace" and a special version of "I'll Fly Away" which features the vocals of Quay White. The album is raw and authentic; the captured sounds of passing cars, insects in the trees, and chatter between songs all a reminder of the changing pace of a live recording. It is friends and family and comfort. It is mountains and rough edges and dirt stomped off of boots. It is bluegrass.
