The Georgian folk band SHARA releases a new album - 6 musicians, 4 dancers and plenty of songs in the famous Georgian polyphonic singing!
What started as a quartet named LAKADA when the founding members Giorgi Shanava, Giorgi Dzadzamia and the brothers Luka and Levan Mebonia still studied at a music school in Tbilisi soon developed in size and style. New members joined (Irakli Chargazia / vocals and Shalva Tsivilashvili / Garmoni), and they addressed the Georgian music producer Chabuki Amiranashvili who suggested to shape LAKADA into a new project. Dancers completed the band, a new programme was set up where music and dance combine to an entertaining performance rooted in ethno-folk but spiced up with poppier melodies, and one of Amiranashvili's compositions gave the project a new name: SHARA, which means narrow road ... the road they had passed already, and the road that was still lying ahead of them. The new recipe of a Georgian ethno-musical and choreographic show quickly became a big success at home but also abroad, e.g. in Russia where they now tour regularly, or in China where SHARA played at the Xiamen Festival in 2019.
"Kartulia" presents 18 songs in the famous Georgian polyphonic singing, played on a variety of traditional instruments such as panduri, chonguri, gudastviri (the Georgian bagpipe), doli and garmoni plus bass and keyboard. And 2 bonus tracks from China!
