For Psaronius, Euglossine searches for poetic correlations between contemporary domestic reality and historic technology. The Greek meaning of Psaronius is precious stone and also the name of a prehistoric genus of tree-fern. Slices of the massive fern were petrified throughout time and polished into ornaments of value by people, chosen because of the ancient and complex patterns they displayed. The graphic qualities of these patterns in comparison with modern patterns of QR codes formed questions about the way our world organizes itself and how this could possibly be interpreted as music in 2020. These themes continued with the explorations of the connections between natural and refined materials, for example the Utah teapot ( a famous 3D model) and Carneros AVA ( the location of the Windows 95 stock desktop background). The instrumentation is attempting to mirror these concepts with physical and physically-modeled timbres working in conjunction to blend the boundaries of digital fidelity and acoustic audio sources. Euglossine performed this music using wooden flutes, log drums, 5 string bass, sequenced fm synthesis, iOS apps, and a vintage guitar synthesizer. Dedicated to my Father.
