Since the release of his first album Fantasia, with music by Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann (Deutsche Grammophon, 2014), Giuseppe Albanese has quickly become one of the most in-demand pianists of his generation. In 2015, still on the DG label, he recorded Après une lecture de Liszt: an album entirely dedicated to the Hungarian composer. Invito alla danza (2019) is his latest work; it is a fascinating excursus through the most famous pieces of ballet music (Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Stravinsky), transcribed for the piano thanks to a great virtuosity. The pieces are ideally enclosed between Carl Maria von Weber’s Invitation to the dance (1819) and Ravel’s La valse (1919).
He has performed recitals and concerts with orchestra at authoritative international venues such as the Metropolitan Museum, Rockefeller University and Steinway Hall in New York, the Auditorium Amijai in Buenos Aires, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, St Martin in the Fields and the Steinway Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris, the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Gulbenkian in Lisbon, etc. Albanese has worked with conductors such as Daniel Oren, Jeffrey Tate, Jonathan Webb, Lawrence Foster, Will Humburg, Dmitri Jurowski ecc.
In Italy, he has played in the most important concert seasons (including those of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia and RAI in Turin) and in major theatres. Recently, he has distinguished himself for having been invited to play in eleven of the thirteen Italian Opera Foundations: the Petruzzelli in Bari, the Comunale in Bologna, the Lirico in Cagliari, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Carlo Felice in Genoa, the San Carlo in Naples, the Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Verdi in Trieste, the Fenice in Venice and the Arena in Verona.
Albanese has a degree in Philosophy with highest marks and honours. He currently teaches piano at the Conservatory Tartini in Trieste.
