Archie Shepp - tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone
Horace Parlan - piano
The second set of duets by Archie Shepp (doubling on tenor and soprano) and pianist Horace Parlan (the earlier SteepleChase set is Goin' Home) features the duo on a dozen blues-oriented pieces from the 1920s, two of which were released for the first time on this CD reissue. It is particularly interesting to hear Shepp, best known for his ferocious free jazz performances of the mid-to-late '60s, adjusting his sound and giving such songs as "Trouble in Mind," Earl Hines's "Blues in Thirds" and "St. James Infirmary" tasteful and respectful yet emotional treatment.
