mastO +, is the second solo album after mastOctopus released in 2018, saxophone again, mainly viola and baritone. Self-taught musician and D.Y.I devotee, Masto improvises, records and mixes at home. He also designs the cover images and the video clips of his songs. Even if the music is uncontrollable, the influences of the new album go from Saint-Saëns or Mahler to the instrumental rap he listened repeatedly in prison durng his workshops he offered to the prisonners for the past ten years.

Masto is the Saxophonist of Lucrate Milk, The Washington Dead Cats on their first album, mostly known through the major punk & alternative band Bérurier Noir, from 1983 to 2015.
On this second solo album, what’s mostly heard is that he’s never locked himself in one type of musical style, not even his own, that his music is always totally permeable, moody, curious, sensitive and free, often too much. Sometimes you’ll wonder if he’s deaf, if he plays for his visions of psychiatric dances, or if he seeks to make angels slumping from the sky!
What has always characterized him and makes him being easily identified on a note, even if it’s not a quack, is his clear and straight sound, its trenchant or quiet breaths. Certain songs sound like eternal beginnings, as if the story was a series of introductions, on some other songs, only one saxophone takes us on his wanderings. Sometimes there are two, viola and baritone, which embrace or claw... and some other times, there are 4, 5, 6... all at once like an armed group and there might be 1 or 2 more in another time-space, chasing a rumor or unearthing a feeling.
Unclassifiable and asymmetrical (it could be futuristic classical music or prehistoric jazz at the same time), it’s visual music. It’s impossible not to see images scrolling under your eyelids while listening. It doesn’t matter if they belong to you or if he wanted them like this, it’s also an echo of the tumult and the joys that inhabit our bellies.
The silences are committed, the tensions very intimate, there’s meaning, blanks and dreams. Masto gives himself up, perhaps frees himself, and offers to his listeners a wide range of possibilities and a visceral and accomplice kindness.
