After the extremely successful start with releases of concerts from the legendary Hamburg club Onkel Pö in spring of this year and the overwhelming press response, the Jazzline label in cooperation with Norddeutscher Rundfunk will continue the series from October 2017
The American trumpeter Freddie Hubbard gave a guest performance with his quintet at Uncle Pö in October 1979. In the line-up with Hadley Caliman (dax), Billy Childs (keys), Larry Klein (bass) and Carl Burnett (dr) the trumpeter presents himself in impressive form. When Freddie Hubbard comes to Hamburg and climbs onto the stage in "Uncle Pö's Carnegie Hall", he is probably more prominent than ever before or thereafter in the middle of the jazz development - with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter and Tony Williams, the trumpeter had formed the quintet "V.S.O.P."; and since the four others had previously formed the legendary second quintet around Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard was now virtually his direct successor. A contemporary document of jazz history!
FREDDIE HUBBARD, trumpet, flugelhorn
HADLEY CALIMAN, sax, flute
BILLY CHILDS, piano
LARRY KLEIN, bass
CARL BURNETT, drums
