After an extremely successful start, with the release of concerts from the legendary Hamburg club Onkel Pö in the spring of this year, and the overwhelming press response, the label Jazzline in cooperation with Norddeutscher Rundfunk will continue the series from October 2017
This audio document tells the story of the concert of Woody Shaw and his quintet at the legendary Hamburg club Onkel Pö. The musician, who died far too early, marks a position in the more recent history of the jazz trumpet that has hardly ever been described so clearly, so precisely, so powerfully before and seldom afterwards: as the shimmering filigree virtuosity of a contemporary who had absorbed himself with practically all traditions before - modernity and historical consciousness as the soul of jazz
Mulgrew Miller on piano, Steve Turre on trombone, Stafford James on bass and Tony Reedus on drums took part in this grandiose concert in Hamburg. Woody Shaw's music, documented here in a concert concentration, is a great, important legacy in contemporary jazz, and this legacy is now enriched by a sparkling facet!
