After the extremely successful start with releases of concerts from the legendary Hamburg club Onkel Pö in spring of this year and the overwhelming press response, the Jazzline label in cooperation with Norddeutscher Rundfunk will continue the series from October 2017
She was one of the great voices of soul and blues: Esther Phillips. The artist, who died far too early, toured the blues clubs of the United States in the 50s and 60s. Only with her discohit What A Difference A Day Makes she became known to a larger audience and reached the commercial peak of her career
The present concerto from Hamburg's Uncle Pö is one of her last major performances. The concert at "Onkel Pö", recorded by the NDR, with powerful accompanists in the band and a very enthusiastic audience, documents on two CD's the extraordinary nature of this great artist. Once again the great enchantment succeeds in this Hamburg November of 1978, when Esther Phillips turns 43 a few weeks later. But time is running out - the singer has not yet reached 50. She died on August 7, 1984
