Will Lawton and the Alchemists - Fossils of the Mind (2020)

Will Lawton (piano and vocals) originally started working with Weasel Howlett (drums) in 2015. The duo released their debut album ‘Fossils of the Mind’ in 2018 to high critical acclaim and have since grown their sound and band by bringing Buddy Fonzarelli (upright bass) and Ami Kaelyn (guitar and vocals) into the fold.

There is something of the jazz approach at the core of this music - interesting timings and intricate riffs hung on fluid, free-flowing musical structures - but their richly textured and layer music contains much more besides. Indie melodics, rock weight and progressive meanderings all add poise and power. They could be your best new find of the year.
