Capturing the intense energy of their live show with the pristine sound of a studio recording, Aggressive Hippies, Marbin's fifth album, which includes eight new compositions (and one improvised extended intro track) that feature Danny Markovitch (sax) and Dani Rabin (guitar) at their best, is the most engaging album of Marbin's albums to date. With the help of Greg Essig (drums) and John W. Lauler (bass), Marbin sounds as tight as only a band that plays out every night can sound.
Markovitch had this to say: "Working on this album was a blast. We entered the studio and just started playing. I think you can feel the good time we had when you listen to it. The songs are constructed from many small sections, which is very different than the melody-solo-melody form we used exclusively in the past, and I think it propels the music forward and keeps it engaging the entire time.”
Rabin tells the story behind the album's name: In November 2013, we broke down leaving Knoxville, TN. We needed a new rear end, so we were stuck there for a few days and had to cancel a number of upcoming shows. One day we were hanging out in Market Square playing gypsy jazz, when a group of hippies approached us and said, "You guys are Marbin, what are you doing playing on the street? Come hang out with us at our hippie shack around the corner."
