In the early 1970s, Ronny Weiser's Rollin' Rock label was the only safe haven for displaced '50s rockabillies, anticipating what later became a full-scale revival. Recording artists still with plenty of gas left in the tank, Weiser cut 'em in his living room in more than spartan circumstances. This 20-track opening salvo in an ongoing series features the best of these early recordings. This features the first "new" (at the time) recordings of artists like Ray Campi ("Rockabilly Music"), Jackie Lee Cochran ("That Gal's Wicked"), Mac Curtis ("Crazy Crazy Lovin'"), Gene Vincent ("The Rose of Love") and Charlie Feathers ("That Certain Female"). There are also sides from artists who were spearheading the rockabilly revival on the West Coast in those dark times with entries from Johnny Legend ("Soakin' the Bone"), Ronnie Mack ("Hey Pretty Girl") and teenaged Jimmie Lee Maslon ("Salacious Rockabilly Cat") making this a well-rounded package that gives a sense of the time when rockabilly was first coming back up for air in the landscape of shag haircuts and big amps.
