El Greco - Sing Cuckoo (2016/2019)

El Greco is a musical and literary project of the Krakow pianist and composer Joachim Mencel. The album contains 10 songs, including 8 compositions by Mencel, to which the poetry of Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Kazimierz Przewy-Tetmajer, Emily Dickinson, Jan Kochanowski and Oskar Wilde as well as the Old English version of the song "Cuckoo Kuka". The whole is complemented by instrumental utos - the composition of Gil Evans "La Nevada" and the work of the band "North Dakota".
As the leader says: "El Greco music is a synthesis of various styles - chillout, drum'n'bass, R&B, jazz, rock. The basis is the ability to move in these styles. (...) Playing jazz, we put our interests in its frame , our heritage and this concept of jazz - a living organism to which we can add our note, is very capacious. (...) I read the music in the rhythm and accents of the text. This poetry that I chose, in my opinion, already had its melody. the only task was to discover her and dress her in sounds, harmony, rhythm and form. "
