Bastian Jütte - Point of No Return (2019)

Bastian Jütte is primarily known for his fine but energetic drumming in numerous German jazz formations. He also publishes regularly under his own name, as with his latest project "Point of No Return": Here the drums come to the fore. The sponsors have certainly been drummers like Mark Guiliana and Jojo Mayer, who manage to create an extremely innovative mix of acoustic and electronic music. But anyone who knows Bastian Jütte knows that he doesn't copy trends. With "Point of No Return" he manages to create his own musical mix. In some cases, solid synthetic bass sounds, but electronics are usually replaced by the guitar, played by congenial Philipp Schiepek. The warmth of folk and americana runs through the partly experimental soundscapes. Instead of imitating electronic beats, Jütte takes the liberty of telling stories with the drums or transferring this role to the guitars. He sings the title song of the album "Point of No Return" himself.
The album spans an arc from catchy songs to ecstatic, tribal-like drum sounds, hypnotic beats and complex nesting to fine and delicate sound structures.
