The great tenor saxophonist Lew Tabackin (who doubles on flute) teams up with bassist Kenny Walker and drummer Bill Goodwin on this live trio date. Tabackin is virtually the whole show, really digging into the seven selections (which clock in between 8:33 and 12:47). Although there are spots for Tabackin's flute, it is his high-powered tenor work on such numbers as "Bemsha Swing," "Cotton Tail" and "Hackensack" that really steals the show. Lew Tabackin remains a brilliant and passionate (if frequently overlooked) improviser. Recommended.
