Antero Sievert - The_Underscore (2019)

A beautiful album of slow-building sounds that mostly come from the piano of Antero Sievert – but which is also slightly augmented at points by work on violin, cello, and trombone! Sievert is great enough on solo piano – working with maybe the warmth and sensitivity of a young Keith Jarrett, but in a mode that's not as longform – but what we also appreciate is his wider ear for sound – a quality that has the instrument often sounding as much as a subtle sonic force as it is a solo vehicle, which really takes off on the album's long "Bob James" track – which features Sievert on Fender Rhodes, and also includes some street noise too.
