Frank Jahloh (pronounced Jar-Law), guitarist, composer and producer has put together a rich and inspired collection of songs featuring beautiful African voices from around the world giving this album its unique flavour and creative momentum.
The guitar is Frank's main instrument and it is amazing that he started playing the instrument after a car crash. His right hand was injured and as part of his rehabilitation and physiotherapy treatment, he started finger picking on the guitar and this activity helped him to grow stronger. This was the beginning of a lifelong dedication to guitar playing and making music. To grow stronger is a theme Frank explores on this album.
Guitar lessons with celebrated Jazz guitarist Esmond Selwyn endowed Frank with great insight into Jazz. Frank’s influences go beyond Jazz though as having grown up in Freetown, Sierra Leone, he was influenced by a vast array of African and popular music. In addition, living in multi-cultural London with its multitude of musical styles, has left an indelible impression and this is reflected in the eclecticism of African Love Affair.
