Besides Mugwump’s electronic post-punk/indie-pop debut-album, « Unspell » in 2015 which gained plaudits all across the board in the International music press and kickstarted a series of Mugwump live shows with a full live band and an upcoming second Mugwump album with the band, Geoffroy Mugwump is primilarly a (highly-respected) DJ.
With a 20 years experience led by infamous residencies at Belgium's cult Food Club or Fuse and an history in assembling spot-on mixes and compilations, he holds an impressive catalogue of releases for labels such as R&S, Gigolo, Cocoon, International Feel, Eskimo, Permanent Vacation, a long recording relationship with Kompakt and ongoing dj support over the years from Andrew Weatherall.
This is the relaunch of Geoffroy Mugwump 's classic 90’s « Moving House » series which had 4 volumes on the legendary Brussel's-based SSR/Crammed Discs (home of Aksak Maboul, Acid Arab, Aquaserge, Tuxedomoon & Minimal Compact) and showcased producers that made house music moving into fresh directions in the mid/late 90’s (including Phil Asher, Maurice Fulton, Ashley Beedle, 20/20 Vision, Charles Webster, Rob Mello, Isolée) plus emerging disco producers (Idjut Boys, Faze-Action or the late Erot) next to classic US originators (Masters At Work, Chez Damier, Eddie Flashing Fowlkes, Mood 2 Swing, Glenn Underground, Johnny Fiasco) and rare music from the Nu Groove & Strictly Rhythm catalogues.
Cue 20 years later and (deep)house has established itself in the mainstream and since tradition counts for nothing when it is no longer contested or modified, here's a contemporary selection moving further along the more leftfield end of house, disco and techno anno 2017... the sort of cosmic and hybrid music Geoffroy Mugwump champions at his Leftorium clubnight (running in Brussels since 2011 with like-minded guests such as Ivan Smagghe, Superpitcher, Matias Aguayo, Optimo’s JG Wilkes, Prins Thomas, Sascha Funke or Robert Johnson's Ata / www.leftorium.be).
Fuelled with unreleased & fresh exclusives from leading electronic artists Andrew Weatherall, Tuff City Kids (Gerd Janson + Lauer) or Roman Flügel plus current scenesters such as Christian S. (Comeme), Cage & Aviary / Jamie Paton (Especial), Duncan Gray (Tici Taci), Pete Herbert (for a joint track with Mugwump), Toby Tobias and newcomers Max Pask (Throne Of Blood, NYC), LA's Travis Kirschbaum vs Pacific Horizons (as Second Language), Bryan Kessler (Comémé / Numbers) or Belgian Subfield acolytes Front De Cadeaux, the selection is topped by Belgian electronic pioneers Arbeid Adelt with their 1983 proto-house track in Dutch, the fresh-as-ever "De Man Die Alles Noteert", as slightly retouched by Subfield acolyte DC Salas (whose joint remix of NYC's Ulysses of Neurotic Drum Band fame, with Mugwump, is also featured in the digi exclusive tracks of the comp).
« Moving House 2017’ is a new take on the series which aims at highlighting the new, the fresh & the wonky, assembled by a DJ obsessed at creating and playing daring dance music.
