The Alligators were born in 1977 around Alain Chenevière, the linchpin of the group. They recorded a first single with the rockabilly "Wild Blue Cat" for the label Sweet Harmony. In 1979, the Alligators composed of: Alain Chenevière (vocals) Momo Cantini (bass), Pascal Hervé (drums), Marc Périz (solo guitar) Pascal Périz (accompaniment guitar) sign at Big Beat where they engrave a 25 cm rockabilly in English "Rockabilly gator" which contains originals and some covers.
At the end of the year 1980, they were invited to play Eddie Mitchell's American star at the Olympia. After an audition in front of Eddie, they will perform five Black Sock titles every night for a month. Four times of the Black Socks are published in EP form at Bel Air. If at first we asked them to be faithful to the original sound, their versions are not copied pasted, rather covers with a rockab is particularly true for "Dactylo rock". The other three titles "I love you too much", "Mad about her" and the beautiful cover of "Betty" that Eddie borrowed from Gene Vincent are more faithful to the originals...
