On this recording with recorder Caroline Eidsten Dahl, baroque cellist Kate Hearne and harpsichordist Christian Kjos, Telemann's complete collection of sonata for recorder and basso continuo is presented.
Seven of the sonatas are among Telemann's best known, and they have become part of the standard repertoire for recorder. In addition, we hear his two sonatins, where the bass voice was missing until it was found again in the 1990s (!). The trio performs some of their absolute favorite sonata here; it is never boring for a musician to play Telemann's music!
The motto "Zingen ist das Fundament in Music in all Dingen" (first sentence in a small poem in a letter to Mattheson in 1718) well summarizes Telemann's guiding principle of always sticking to the singable and melodic. In addition, he liked to spice up some cultivated folklore, primarily "alla Polacca" tunes. This is clearly reflected in Telemann's recorder sonata; his love for beautiful melodies, rhythms inspired by Polish folk music and virtuoso, both with recorder and basso continuo.
