Born in Fulham, London, songwriter, musician and producer Robb Scott's music incorporates broken beats, jazz funk and Afro Cuban rhythms, all accompanied by lush string and horn arrangements and soulful vocals. His music career spans well over eighteen years beginning in the 80's before being taken to New York in the 90’s.
His biggest break to date was in 2003, with the release of single ‘Fallin’. 3 years on, Robb Scott is back with a fusion of jazz, funk and futuristic electronica to his mix on album ‘Afro Odyssey’, to be released at the end of October.
The album is blissfully laidback. It plays like a dream of groovy melodic hip hop tunes. Track favourites include the first track, ‘Fallin’. There’s no doubt in my mind why it was the leading single for his sound. It is a strong song and works with the wonderful vocals of singer Mary Edwards. The jazzinated beats from title-track ‘Afro Odyssey’ has an earthy feel to it. Also released on single was ‘Understanding’ and ‘Anything you like’, both outstanding pieces.
Robb Scott is a seriously gifted musician, as most of the instruments played and are arranged by Robb Scott. His music itself bares political undertones as well as themes about love. He is respected highly in the music industry, seeing him work with numerous collaborators. He has even had the chance to work with the legendary blues guitarist and vocalist Ellen McIlwaine on ‘Reflections.’
Overall, he has presented us with an album that is simply sublime.
