15. 7 Vortragsstücke, Op. 89: VI. Andante tranquillo e teneramente
16. 7 Vortragsstücke, Op. 89: VII. Vivace e giocoso
These compositions show us Roentgen in at his most authentic: as a nineteenth century “Leipzig man”, with influences from Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Robert and Clara Schumann in evidence in these works. In many movements Roentgen also seems to draw on Norwegian folk music, which he had heard ten years before with Edvard Grieg during their hikes through the Norwegian countryside. Vol. 1 is skilfully interpreted by Christoph Schickedanz and Ernst Breidenbach.
