"Afternoon in Shanghai" from the Toby Mak Quartet is a return to traditional jazz roots for Mak. It is both a tribute to his mentor Gil Askey, and the old school jazz recording approach, having a sound and spontaneity reminiscent of the classic jazz age. Mostly comprised of jazz standards and a few Mak originals, the album features the swinging trio of Mark Fitzgibbon(Aus)- Piano, Danny Zanker(USA)- Bass and Charlie Foldesh(USA) - Drums. The album was recorded live at the “Old Jz Club” on Fuxing Lu, during the afternoon of July 19th 2015, by Damien Banzigou.
