The musician Don Ender, who is based in the Rhein-Neckar metropolis, that is to say in Mannheim, and probably also more well-known there, now sends his debut album "Southwards" to be known nationwide as well.
And he clearly puts it, as the title of his work already suggests, on the map Southern Rock. Even though he knows his origin quite well, but not completely concealed (as usual with discs from German countries, which I have reviewed) (vocals, simple lyrics), he is very high in the ranking of compatible acts and knows especially in the musical field, to completely convince.
He was supported by the drummers Frank Eichsberger and Olav Federmann (tracks 5 and 7) and quite a friend of our magazine, Timo Gross, who was involved in songwriting, production, bass, guitars, keyboards and background vocals ,
The majority of the tracks have a beautiful driving Southern Blues Rock character, always very melodic, with acts like ZZ Top and the Allman Brothers ("Stranded", "Always By Your Side"), but also things that are out the vicious circle of Gary Rossington come here, especially his typical creaking-feisty Les Paul game mentioned, seemed to have been trend-setting.
Only twice in the west coast-swept "Nothing's Gonna Be The Same" (with whistling and acoustic guitars) and the final melancholic "Coming Home" it is a bit more contemplative.
But my favorites are the little dirty, uncompromising Southern Rockers like "Miss You So Bad", "Nothing's Gonna Be The Same", "Trouble", "Nick Of Time" (Intro recalls Skynyrd's "Travelin 'Man") or "Shackles On." My Soul ", where Ender and Gross really crack on their stringed instruments.
All in all, Don Ender has created a great, entertaining album with "Southwards" (of course not to forget Timo Gross as a congenial partner), which brings the excitement to the story very authentically and, above all, what is a must in Southern Rock circles , in the many, classically played guitar parts, offers their great strength.
In hunting jargon one would certainly speak of a capital 10-end when assessing this (musical) booty. Or simply put differently: Ender good, all good! ~translate from German.
