Vokalensemble Novantiqua Bern & Kesselberg Ensemble - Carlo Donato Cossoni: Einsiedler Vesper (2019) [Hi-Res]

Carlo Donato Cossoni (1623-1700) was born on 10 November 1623 in the town of Gravedona on the shores of Lake Como. Already in 1650 he took over the office of organist at the Basilica San Fedele in Como, after he had been ordained priest there. After his death he left autographs of considerable size. He bequeathed 54 sacred works to the monastery Appellato della Madonna de Valdo (called Mary in the Forest), i.e. the Einsiedeln Abbey. In addition to the autographs in Einsiedeln, other Cossoni manuscripts are kept in Milan, Como and Bologna

The vocal ensemble NOVANTIQUA Bern was founded in 1987 by Bernhard Pfammatter in order to develop demanding choral literature ready for concert in a small ensemble. With the name "NOVANTIQUA" the ensemble aims at the care of old works as well as music from the 20th/21st century. The Basel "Kesselberg Ensemble" was founded in 2004 by Latvian musicians, all graduates of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
