It’s been a long time coming but finally, Trench Town recording duo Richie and The Ragga has released their debut album, Rags to Riches for Jamaican-American producer Bobby Johnson’s Ubigwitus Records.
Johnson, who previously worked exclusively with hip hop and R&B artists such as Maestro Manny and Carl Thomas, was impressed when he first heard the duo, while on a trip to Jamaica.
Johnson is even more impressed with the outcome of the album, describing it as a musical high.
“It is an eclectic sampling of the dynamic range of Richie and The Ragga. You listen and dance, you listen and sing, you listen and think, you listen and laugh, you listen and share, you listen and hit replay. Rags to Riches by Richie and The Ragga, it a shot!” Johnson remarked.
The album was preceded firstly by the single Still in Love, an up tempo love song about lost love, which was followed by Fly Free, described as a tribute to Africa and her descendants, both released earlier this year.
Currently, the third single, Innocent Blood, a haunting anti-violence song dedicated to Jamaica which features the quality input of reggae’s finest rhythm section, Sly and Robbie, is in focus and getting rotation.
The album also features the love song, Burning Red, the marijuana themed High, and an updated remake of John Holt and U-Roy’s 70s classic, Wear You to the Ball, among others.
