Soul and Courage, Brett Lucas' 4th studio album, is an explosive Blues Rock album. Along with Brett Lucas on guitar and vocals, the band consists of some of the best Detroit has to offer; Max Bauhof is on Drums, Chuck Bartels is on bass, and Evan Mercer is on Keys.
Brett and the band gathered to record this album before their favorite studio closed. It was the last week that Homestead Studio's was going to be open, time was not on their side but inspiration was. The only thought was to capture what they do best, which is to grab their instruments, plug in and go for it. It was that sense of urgency and focus that threw musical sparks flying in the cutting room as the recording button was lit bright red. The tracks presented here were picked as the result of these fantastic sessions. They are the band's most intense emotional and improvisational studio takes of these songs.
Together they have played in many clubs and venues hoping to capture their unique musical intensity on tape. Here it is presented to you. A few of these songs have been main features of their live show set lists, and a few Brett had written in his back pocket for this album.
Soul and Courage, the emotional skills needed to accomplish a high quality of passion and inspiration within oneself and within the music that they play together. The Allman Brothers Band called it "Hitting the Note." Spanish Flamenco guitarists, such as Paco De Lucia, referred to it as Duende. Now it's your turn, just simply listen and let it take you there.
