Jazz pianist Thomas Enhco also recognized in the jazz world, formed a duo with percussionist extraordinary Vassilena Serafimova. Their first album, Funambules, appears to April 8 for Deutsche Grammophon. From Mozart to The Verve, from Bach to their own compositions.
Paths Vassilena and Thomas intersect at the crossroads ... and there is of course Mozart: marimba and piano are found as equals in the three movements of the Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major K.448. The virtuosity and energy of the two artists are deployed with ease in this masterpiece at a time full of joy and deep, they offer us a version never heard before.
Vassilena passes naturally through the transcript to fit a Bach fugue taken from the Sonata for Solo Violin No. 1 in G Major BWV 1001. Aquarium, extracted from Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens, is itself completely arranged for piano and marimba prepared, offering an inventive interpretation and full of madness. Thomas Enhco re-aligns Pavane op.50 by Gabriel Fauré for a darker, melancholy version of Vassilena while transforming its marimba in a hybrid instrument between organ, cello and bassoon.
He composed for the duo; Eclipse, a dreamy and romantic walk, playing the lightness of their two keyboards, Palimpsest, which painted a soft light with the woody waves of marimba while the slow piano melody is the path, as a guide in a forest Magic.
She teaches him a traditional song from his native Bulgaria, Dilmano, Dilbero they unite their voices clear, and create an epic and hair-raising work-river.
They order the American composer Patrick Zimmerli: Signs of Life - Blood Pressure drives the two instruments in a crazy race, bowing to Steve Reich pass. They give a full version of Bitter Sweet Symphony groove, worldwide hit Britpop group The Verve.
