A versatile, passionate musician, Mathieu Gaudet has pursued a remarkable career as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor for the past 20 years. He commands a vast repertoire of works and has performed across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. His concerts and recordings are regularly broadcast on the French and English services of the CBC.
The 2018–2019 season marked the fourth and last in his distinguished series of performances of Franz Schubert’s complete piano sonatas and other major works. Gaudet’s full recorded version for Analekta, a first in Canada, will comprise a box set of 12 discs. Last April, he performed Chopin’s Concerto No. 2 in F minor with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra in British Columbia. In 2018, he was the guest soloist of the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean, performing Schumann’s Concerto in A minor. In recent seasons, he has taken part in Ottawa’s Master Piano Recital Series and completed a concert tour in France with the Pentaèdre Wind Quintet.
His first recording, a thoughtful interpretation of Rachmaninov’s 24 Preludes, was released in 2008 to both critical and popular acclaim. His second recording, devoted to Schumann’s Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6 and Fantasie, Op. 17 was nominated for a 2012 Opus Prize in the category of Recording of the year – Romantic, Post-Romantic, and Impressionist Music.
Mathieu Gaudet obtained the Master of Music degree from the prestigious Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he studied with Julian Martin; he subsequently continued his training under Leon Fleisher. In 2007 he earned a Doctor of Music in Performance from the Faculty of Music of Université de Montréal under Paul Stewart.
